BEST LOCAL CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
River Oaks — When you travel through this extravagant neighborhood, you are greeted by beautiful mansions with huge oak trees adorned with brilliant and festive Christmas lights. The lights are very traditional and saturated with so many lights, that the neighborhood is visible for miles after dark. We can’t imagine their electric bill, but it sure does make for a picturesque holiday picture. When you book our party bus, we’ll also make sure to pass the jaw-dropping display at the corner house on Mockingbird and Del Monte. River Oaks goes all out and they have earned the reputation as the best Christmas lights in Houston for quite some time.
Woodland Heights — In this part of the famous Heights district, you will find the highest density of Christmas lights of any neighborhood in Houston. You’ll be hard pressed to find a single house that doesn’t have a display; so it makes it a perfect spot to include on your Christmas lights party bus tour.
Spring Shadows — Just north of I-10 off Gessner blvd near Memorial City Mall, is a magical experience for children and the child in all of us. Since there is only one entrance in and one exit out of this neighborhood; it is drive-thru only—all the more reason to ride our party bus through this exhibit as the lines can get long. By far, one of the most popular displays in Houston so make sure to bring hot chocolate and cookies with you on the bus.
Prestonwood Forest — Prestonwood Forest is considered the “best in the west” when it comes to neighbor participation in elaborate Christmas light displays. Ongoing since the 1970s, the 40th annual Nite of Lites will be lighting up the neighborhood every night from December 8 – December 30 from dusk till 10 pm on weekdays and 11 pm on weekends. Not sure how people get to sleep there at night as bright as it is; but it sure is an amazing site to see since all the home compete vigorously for awards every year. You’ll find the display off Tomball Parkway and you can check out the visitor’s map for detailed information. Of course, we know the way there and the shortcuts to mitigate time spent in traffic, but what is traffic when you’re in the winter wonderland of an Excelsior Party Bus right?
Johnson’s Christmas Corner (Cypress) — If you want to talk about a Christmas Vacation level of excess in Christmas lights; then you need to head over to the Johnson Family house in Cypress. Located at 14811 Cypress Meadow Drive; this display combines over 70,000 lights all synchronized to music, bubble machines, and snow machines as well. As if that wasn’t Griswold enough for you—the show changes themes every night! Themes include fun things like: “Movie Night” with iconic movie themes, “Trans-Siberian Orchestra Night” (our favorite), and “Rock & Roll Christmas.” This family obviously is all about Christmas and even Santa is available on some nights to take pics with the kids. Check out their Facebook page, Johnson’s Christmas Corner for more info.
Dodd Family Holidays (The Woodlands) — Chris Dodd of The Woodlands isn’t shy about his family’s love for the Christmas season. Their Christmas light display, ongoing since 2001 is quite the visual testament to that love. Chris spends almost a month getting his display set up and synchronized just right. This amazing light show does not pull any punches—at over two hours long and a playlist of nearly fifty songs, it is by far one of the longest single home light displays in Texas. On most nights you can catch Chris outside chatting with visitors and answering questions about his labor of love. You can check out the Dodd family Facebook page for more info, pics, and videos. Music is even simulcast on 95.1 FM and we can turn it up in the party bus and really get the holidays rockin.
